Legend states that King Janaka commissioned artists to capture his daughter Sita's wedding to Prince Rama, marking the beginning of this tradition.

Warli painting is an ancient tribal art form from the Warli tribe in Maharashtra, India. While the practice has ancient roots, its widespread recognition and global acclaim surged in the 1970s when Jivya Soma Mashe (known as the father of modern Warli painting) popularized the art beyond its original ritualistic purpose.
Kalamkari art dates back over 3,000 years, with evidence of similar artwork found from the Indus Valley Civilization.
The technique of hand-painting or block-printing designs onto fabric using natural dyes has a rich history in India, reaching a peak in prominence during the Mughal era and flourishing under the Golconda Sultanate.
